Vitor Pereira has been very clear about the need for more signings at Wolves.
It’s been a tough window for Wolves. The squad has suffered many high-profile exits, and the buying market has been equally bruising, with so many promising targets turning down a move to Molineux.
Most of the players that have come in look promising, with some needing a teething period to adapt to English football.
But it’s not the quality, rather the quantity of signings, that’s such a cause for concern. And former Wolves midfielder Dave Edwards thinks one area in particular is severely lacking.
Dave Edwards says Wolves won’t score enough goals this season
Writing for E&S, Edwards has voiced his concerns about Wolves attacking options, saying: “I don’t see how Wolves can move out of this transfer window without signing some top quality players in the final third.”
The arrivals of Jhon Arias and Fer Lopez are a source of hope for this Wolves front line, but Edwards doesn’t see this as sufficient to succeed at the top level.
He continues: “We saw that last year and at the moment we haven’t got the players to score enough goals to win games of football in the Premier League.”
The first two games of the season suggest as much, with Wolves failing to score in either fixture.
Wolves need to sign Christantus Uche and one more attacker
Wolves aren’t done selling this summer. Fabio Silva is on the verge of leaving and Hwang Hee-chan has attracted interest from Crystal Palace.
For this exercise, we’re assuming Jorgen Strand Larsen’s move to Newcastle doesn’t happen, because in that version of reality, the answers become far more complicated.
Christantus Uche looks close to joining Wolves, but he would be more suited to the wide spots in Pereira’s front three.
A recognised number nine is still needed to back up the Norwegian and add more goals to this side.
As Edwards puts it: “The nucleus of the team and the identity is there, we just need to add some quality.”
