Dave Edwards explains the one thing he really loves about ‘fabulous’ Wolves star

Dave Edwards has hailed midfielder Tommy Doyle for the way he has stepped up for Wolves recently., and lauded his professionalism.

Doyle has started the last two games for Wolves with Mario Lemina currently on compassionate leave, and he has put in two really strong performances.

He enjoyed his best moment since coming to the club last Friday, when he scored a sensational equaliser against Brentford in the FA Cup.

Doyle’s brilliant left-foot strike was something right out of the Ruben Neves catalogue, and his overall performance was really good considering he lost his midfield partner Joao Gomes to an early red card.

The 21-year-old on loan from Manchester City has now come in for praise from former Molineux midfielder Dave Edwards following his latest outing…

Back in October, Edwards predicted that Doyle would go on to become a key player for Wolves.

He has had to be patient so far, with Lemina and Gomes having forged a terrific midfield partnership.

But in recent weeks Doyle has finally been able to showcase his qualities properly and now, he has a golden chance to establish himself as a regular starter, with Gomes set to miss the next three games and Boubacar Traore away at AFCON.

This prospect has really pleased Edwards, but who is a huge fan of the playmaker. Lauding his professionalism, he said (Express & Star): “It sounds that Doyle is that kind of character, from listening to Gary O’Neil’s comments after the match. He’s a model professional, grateful for the opportunity in the Premier League with Wolves, and you have to give him huge credit because he’s stepped into the role seamlessly.

“He’s really risen to the occasion against Brentford and Everton and I’m delighted for him. I love when hard work is rewarded.

On his stunning goal against Brentford, Edwards added: “As the ball came to him and he chopped onto his left foot, it shows the confidence he has in his own ability and what a terrific strike it was. It was fabulous, right up there with Wolves’ top FA Cup goals.”

Doyle is a top young talent

It was fantastic to see Doyle enjoy such a great moment against Brentford on Friday, because clearly he has been working his socks off to get in the team and make an impact.

O’Neil spoke after the game about him getting a feel for the FA Cup balls in training, and little details like that just show what he’s all about.

With two great performances in a row, Doyle has now placed himself firmly in front of Gary O’Neil at Molineux, and it’s on him to take his opportunity, with other players in his position unavailable.

Quite possibly, this could be the start of a long run in the side for him. O’Neil has shown already this season with Toti Gomes that a player can come in from the fringes and be a crucial cog in the machine, so the precedent is there for Doyle.
