Dave Edwards believes Bruno Lage should bring in Toti Gomes to replace the suspended Nathan Collins.
The Republic of Ireland international is now serving a three-game ban for Wanderers after his challenge on Jack Grealish at the weekend.
The 21-year-old was late and high on the Manchester City winger, and could have complaints about being sent off.
It was a stain on what’s been a very impressive first couple of months at Molineux for Collins.
Lage must now decide how best to cover his absence.
And Edwards reckons it is time for Toti to get his first minutes of the 2022/23 season.
He wrote in his latest Express & Star column: “With how Toti Gomes performed last season, the obvious call is to bring him in and move Kilman to the right. That’s what I’d go with.
“(Yerson) Mosquera hasn’t had the game time yet and Toti hasn’t let Wolves down. Kilman also has the ability to play either side.
“That feels like the way forward for me until Collins returns from suspension.”
Toti made five appearances for Wolves last season after returning to the club from Grasshoppers in January.
He replaced Romain Saiss for a few games after he had gone to AFCON with Morocco.
He then played in the final two games against Norwich City and Liverpool.
The 23-year-old gave a really solid account of himself. And his performances led to Conor Coady branding him ‘fantastic’ and ‘absolutely excellent’ earlier this year’.
Bruno Lage should indeed replace Collins with Toti Gomes moving forwards
Ideally, Wolves will bring in free agent Jason Denayer in the coming days.
But assuming that doesn’t happen, Toti should get the nod to replace Collins in the back four.
He proved himself in the Premier League last season across his five appearances, and deserves a chance to play.
Some will probably vouch for Mosquera since he is right footed and could be a better complement to Maximilian Kilman.
But Kilman is comfortable playing on the right, which would allow Toti to play on the left.
