A lot has been made of Wolves’ transfer business this summer with some fans concerned about the lack of Premier League-proven additions, but Fer Lopez looks to be a great prospect.
It seems a long time ago now that Lopez arrived as the first new face at Molineux.
Wolves forked out £19 million, which was a lot to pay for a player who only made 20 appearances for Celta Vigo’s first-team.
But so far, the signs have been positive over Lopez.
He’s turned out three times so far in the 2025/26 season and against Everton last weekend, Lopez left fans excited.
Even Jack Grealish was seen praising Lopez, whose cameo was very positive at Molineux as Wolves sought to get back into the game.
Lopez is now in contention to start against Newcastle, and we’ll see if Vitor Pereira is willing to trust him at St. James’ Park.
But one man who likely really wants to see that happen, is Dave Edwards.
Dave Edwards loves Fer Lopez’s off-the-ball intelligence

Against Everton, Lopez was really positive and tried to create openings for Wolves.
He did give the ball away a few times, but you could see him trying to play forwards and make things happen as Wanderers chased the game.
Playmaking is a big part of his game, as is gliding with the ball.
But one other underrated trait of Lopez has impressed Dave Edwards, and that’s his off-the-ball intelligence.
He said on The Official Wolves Podcast: “His actual intelligence off-the-ball is what makes him so effective.
“When he has the play, he’s got that elegance about him. Left-footers look nicer anyway don’t they? But the way he travels with it and moves it and can just drop his shoulder and cut in on his left foot, even though you know he’s going to do it, it still works.
“But off the ball, waiting to receive it, he is so, so good. When he came on) It was the first time we saw any of our players be able to find space and turn.
“A lot of players who are desperate to impact it, they get drawn to the ball all the time, they want to come close to it. Even Matheus Cunha was of that nature, he wanted the ball so much he’d come to it.
“But Fer Lopez, he will understand he’s in a good position and he will almost wait, and he’ll trust that his teammates are then going to move it across the pitch in one pass and then all of a sudden he’s in acres. That patience is actually quite hard in the hustle and bustle of a Premier League game, to know you’re in a good position already and he knows everything around him, turns in one motion and then he’s facing the opposition.
“That side of his game is brilliant. I’d just love him to get a goal or an assist or have some big moments to give him confidence.”
Lopez already looks a positive addition by Wolves
A lot of money was paid to sign Lopez, but we are already seeing some exciting signs.
He will still need several weeks to adapt, you feel. But Lopez’s performance against Everton was a big green flag.
He played without fear and demanded the ball when he could, moving into good positions using that clever off-the-ball intelligence.
He’s just joined and is a young player, and yet he’s already showing great personality when playing for Wolves so far and doesn’t appear overawed at all.
It is encouraging to see that Pereira has given him a few appearances so far and hasn’t kept him back, indicating he is clearly fairly happy with what he’s been showing on the training pitch.
One would suspect that first Premier League start isn’t too far away.
