Danny Murphy impressed by two Wolves players so far in 2024/25, including £10m star

It has been a very tough start to the new season for Wolves, but pundit Danny Murphy is a big fan of two Molineux stars.

Currently, Wolves sit bottom of the Premier League table after taking just one point from their first seven games.

Wolves remain winless in the league so far, and the 5-3 defeat to Brentford saw a lot of fans turn on Gary O’Neil. Some Wolves fans also vented their anger towards Fosun after the full-time whistle.

But O’Neil will be given a bit more time by the Wolves board to turn things around.

Up next for Wolves is Manchester City at Molineux.

It will be another very tough game, but Danny Murphy reckons Wanderers might just be able to spring a surprise.

Wolves have not had too many standout players so far this season.

But on the whole, supporters have been very pleased with what they have seen from new signing Andre.

The Brazilian was a £21 million capture from Fluminense, and he has impressed slotting in as the holding midfielder.

Danny Murphy was speaking about Wolves earlier this week on talkSPORT – and name-dropped Andre as one of two players he likes, ahead of the upcoming game with City.

He said: “Andre, the lad they’ve signed in midfield, is a good player.

“Lemina is terrific, he’s now captain.”

Mario Lemina has certainly been a terrific signing for Wolves. But just at the moment, he is not in his best moment.

£10 million signing Lemina admitted he had his worst game for Wolves against Brentford, and the 31-year-old will be hoping to improve after the international break.

Wolves need Lemina back on form

It has been a very solid start for Andre, with the midfielder really showing himself to be very tidy on the ball.

Andre currently has the highest pass completion rate in the Premier League, and it’s already clear to see why top clubs were after him in the summer.

Regarding Lemina, Murphy is right to call him ‘terrific’, generally speaking. But just at the moment, the Wolves captain is struggling a bit.

He was very poor against Brentford, but he knows that and will be determined to get himself back on track.

Appearances – 67
Goals – 6
Assists – 3

Lemina was outstanding for most of last season, and he was a deserving winner of the Supporters’ Player of the Season award for 2023/24.

He hasn’t quite lived up to the heights so far this term, and it may be that the captain’s armband has weighed heavier than expected.

But Lemina is too good to continue on like this. He has a strong mentality and will pull himself out of the rut. And it’s important he does so as soon as possible, because Wolves need their skipper bang at it during this very tough period.
