Danny Murphy drops honest assessment of Wolves after Burnley defeat

Wolves lost their must-win game against Burnley – and pundit Danny Murphy has given his thoughts about the mess the club are in.

Wolves fell to yet another defeat in the Premier League on Sunday, this time against Burnley.

It’s a hat-trick of defeats now for Wolves against newly promoted sides, and just two points taken from nine games.

Vitor Pereira had suggested it was a must-win game against Burnley, and the fact Wolves lost will now bring about a huge new wave of pressure.

For the moment, it looks as though the Wolves board are sticking by Pereira.

Of course, they only gave him a new contract last month, and that appears to be buying him some time.

But certainly, after the defeat to Burnley, many fans have now turned on the manager, especially following those unsavoury scenes involving Pereira and the South Bank.

On Match of the Day, pundit Danny Murphy gave his verdict on Wolves.

Pereira said after yesterday’s game that it was an unfair result against Burnley.

Perhaps Wolves were slightly unlucky to lose it, but some will argue that Wanderers did not do enough to actually win.

Yes, they dominated the ball in the second-half. But they didn’t do enough in terms of creating big chances again, and Martin Dubravka also made some good saves.

On Match of the Day, Danny Murphy shared his thoughts on Wolves.

He said: “It’s truly amazing for Wolves because when you’re down the bottom it’s like every bit of bad luck goes against you. They hit the crossbar from the free-kick, the ‘keeper makes a wonderful save in the last minute. Nothing is going for them.

“It was a remarkable comeback last season which of course he (Pereira) masterminded, hence the fact he was having a few pints with the fans by the end of the season.

“To ask him to do it again, or ask his team to do it again is a huge ask. I really worry for them. They look so wide open and conceding so many goals.

“It’s going to be, I wouldn’t say a miracle, but a huge task (to stay up) for a team that’s lost its best players.”

There were elements of bad luck for Wolves against Burnley, such as Arias striking the bar from his free-kick, and Dubravka pulling off a world-class save at the end.

However, Wolves should have been beating Burnley. They should have been beating Sunderland, despite their good form at the moment, and they should have been beating Leeds.

Wolves losing to all three newly promoted clubs is just unacceptable.

The gap to safety is now six points, and while there is still a lot of time left in the season, Wolves look more likely to get cut adrift than climb out of the relegation zone.
