Dan Bentley shares what Wolves do with players who are ‘not accepted’ at Molineux

Wolves goalkeeper Dan Bentley has opened up about how the transfer window impacts the squad.

Bentley is a part of the Wolves squad that travelled to Portugal for the first part of pre-season.

The 32-year-old has a frustrating job role, being number two in Wolves’ pecking order between the sticks.

This has resulted in the Englishman making only 12 appearances since signing for the Old Gold in January 2023.

Still, Bentley is a valued member of the Wolves squad under Vitor Pereira, offering valuable insight to those around him.

Dan Bentley shares an insight into Wolves’ club culture

Wolves fans admire Bentley’s quality, as was seen at Old Trafford last season when the Englishman kept a clean sheet.

As well as being a top player, the 32-year-old is a model professional, which has seen him embrace Wolves’ club culture.

In an interview, relayed by the Express and Star, Bentley spoke about the importance of club culture, and what the club do if a player does not fit in.

“Since I’ve been here, there hasn’t been that kind of person in the dressing room that is not accepted in the dressing room, and if there has been, they’ve gone very quickly,” Bentley explained.

“The club do their due diligence on who they bring through the door, and they tend to bring the right characters in, which for us as a group is obviously great.

“When someone comes in, they’re new, no matter their background, their culture, what language they speak; they tend to just fit in and be accepted.

“We try to make them comfortable as a group when someone’s new, and that’s what happened when I walked through the door as well.”

The goalkeeper went on to insist that creating a welcoming environment is ‘really important’ when new arrivals land, but those coming in also have to do their part.

“That’s something that is really important to us as a group because Wolves aren’t a club that’s going to go and spend £120million on a player, and we’re not going to go and do mad signings and silly things like that.

“So when we do bring someone through the door, they have to fit in with the culture that we breed as a group and that the club expects and the identity of the club.”

Bentley is committed to Wolves

Though Bentley rarely gets a chance to show his worth at Wolves, the goalkeeper has shown his commitment to the club in recent months.

Arsenal wanted to sign Bentley in 2024 as a backup to David Raya, but a deal never happened.

Former sporting director Matt Hobbs lauded Bentley’s commitment to Wolves following the transfer links, revealing that the 32-year-old ‘always wanted’ to stay.

The shot-stopper penned a new deal at Wolves that expires in 2027, with his mind firmly on Pereira’s project.
