Craig Dawson makes an encouraging remark about his playing career

Wolves defender Craig Dawson isn’t getting any younger, but his performance levels on the pitch remain impressively high.

Dawson came to Wolves at the start of the year, signing for around £3 million from West Ham United a few months after Wanderers had first tried to get him.

Wolves had wanted Dawson a year ago, but the Hammers blocked the move because they couldn’t sign a replacement at the time.

Thankfully though, the move would eventually come to fruition.

Dawson has been a revelation since signing for Wolves, bringing some much-needed steel and authority to the backline.

It is made all the more impressive when you remember that Dawson is 33 years of age. But age is just a number, and Dawson has made an interesting comment with regards to his playing career…

Dawson participated in a feature piece for the Wolves official website recently, and answered questions about his life away from football.

The star loves family time, and is always busy with his kids when not training or playing for Wolves.

One of the questions he is asked is ‘Is there one sport or activity you wish you could try?’ and the £45k-a-week star gave an interesting answer.

He said: “Skiing and those kind of winter sports would be good to have a go at once I’ve retired – but I’ve got a few years left yet.”

33-year-old Dawson ageing like fine wine

At age 33, Dawson is seemingly coming to the end of his playing career, but this comment suggests that he is nowhere near ready to hang up his boots.

He is certainly not currently showing any signs of slowing down and his level is not dipping. He’s already clocked up 29 appearances for Wolves and the vast majority of those games have seen him perform solidly.

Part of the reason Dawson is able to keep playing to a high standard at this point in his career is because of how professional he is.

After signing for the club, The Athletic ran a feature on Dawson and suggested that he would raise standards at Molineux thanks to his attention to detail in his preparation, which was ‘legendary’ during his time at West Bromwich Albion.

Recently, Stuart Pearce – who has worked with Dawson at a couple of clubs – claimed Dawson is ‘the best professional you’ll ever work with’.

It’s clear his dedication and professionalism help him to still shine and should he keep showing those things then there’s no reason why he can’t play into his late thirties.
