Conor Coady played alongside some very talented teammates during his time at Wolves, with one player in particular earning big praise from the defender.
Regarded as Wolves’ most important player since Steve Bull, Coady’s humble nature would always pass the praise onto his teammates.
Coady regularly hailed the likes of Joao Moutinho, whilst even making lofty comparisons, that Ruben Neves was similar to Steven Gerrard.
Pedro Neto would also earn plaudits from the Englishman during his Wolves spell, with Coady claiming the Portuguese had a strong resemblance to a certain Premier League superstar.

Conor Coady was huge fan of Pedro Neto
Coady tipped Rayan Ait-Nouri for big things in the game, and it seems like the defender had the same vision for Neto.
After enjoying a breakout season in 20/21, Neto was flying high and was fast becoming one of Wolves’ star players.
Whilst featuring on Jamie Carragher’s ‘Greatest Game’ podcast in May 2021, Coady would be questioned on the Portuguese’s talents.
“Boss, mate, yeah. Really good. He’s class, him.
“You forget he’s 21, I look at him as a 28-year-old. He doesn’t look that age.
“We were talking the other day and we were on about how he’s born in 2000 and we were putting him in the same category as Phil Foden.
“You look at how well he’s doing and then you look at the numbers Pedro is bringing up as well, and the assists and the goals and how he’s affecting games for Wolves.
“He’s an incredible player, absolutely incredible.”
Neto’s performances are starting to prove Coady right
Neto’s injuries would ultimately delay Coady’s lofty prediction, but the Portuguese is now starting to prove his former teammate right.
Chelsea signed Neto in the summer of 2024 for £54m, in what was Wolves’ most expensive sale of all time.
After a slow start, the 25-year-old has since thrived and become a big part of Enzo Maresca’s squad.
Stats 24/25 | Apps | Goals | Assists |
Pedro Neto | 46 | 7 | 9 |
Phil Foden | 46 | 11 | 7 |
With similar goals and assists to Foden this season, Coady’s big comparison back in 2021 doesn’t seem as crazy as it once did.
