Conor Coady thought ‘fantastic footballer’ Wolves sold for £4.65m went completely under the radar

Conor Coady played alongside some truly talented players during his time at Wolves, but he believed one of his teammates arguably didn’t get the credit they deserved.

The former Molineux skipper wasn’t afraid to heap praise on teammates during his eight-year spell at the club.

For example, Coady admitted he was stunned by Joao Moutinho during the Portuguese’s first training session, whilst the defender also compared Ruben Neves to Steven Gerrard back in 2018.

Coady, though, also made sure to laud another of his teammates, one who he believes went under the radar for his impact.

Conor Coady was a huge fan of Willy Boly

Regarded as one of the best signings of the Fosun era, Willy Boly was a mainstay in the Wolves defence for a number of years.

The Frenchman formed a strong partnership with Coady, and it seems he left a strong impression on his defensive partner.

Speaking back in 2020, after Wolves’ 0-0 draw with Man United, Coady made sure to highlight Boly’s underrated impact.

“We said when he got injured how big a miss he would be. He slotted straight back in and is a fantastic footballer,” via the Shropshire Star.

“He is a brilliant person too to move forward in the team. You saw what he did on Saturday. He did exactly what he did before he got injured.

“He is a fantastic person to come back in. It’s not an easy game to come into, either.

“He was brilliant and he does that every single game – you know what you are going to get from him. He has been a big miss since he has been injured, so to have him back is a huge thing for this football club.”

Boly’s future now uncertain at Nottingham Forest

After four years of service, Boly would leave Wolves in 2022 in a reported £4.65m transfer (Daily Mail) to Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest.

Three seasons on since that deal, Boly hasn’t quite managed to provide the same impact as he did at Molineux, despite former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo arriving at the club.

Now out of contract, the Frenchman is reportedly in talks with Forest to extend his deal for a further twelve months (as per the Nottingham Post).

Nuno’s side are said to be keen on keeping Boly’s services, whether the defender will want to remain a bit part of the squad is another question, though.
