Wolves captain Conor Coady has reported to pre-season training in Marbella.
After getting to the final of Euro 2020 with England, Coady was given an extended break.
He was expected to report to Compton when the squad returned from their Spanish training camp on Thursday.
But he linked up with the squad ahead of last night’s 3-2 loss to Las Palmas and posted a photo of himself back in training on Instagram.
In an interview with the Athletic yesterday, Coady spoke about how keen he’d been to get back in training.
“Yeah, I’m a pain really. My missus goes mad. I’ve been looking at the Wolves lads,” he said.
“They’ve been on pre-season in Marbella, we’ve got a new manager and a new way of playing and I’m thinking, ‘I should be there, listening to him’.
“Amie says, ‘You’ve been with England for five weeks when they’ve been off’, and she’s right. I probably needed a breather. But I’m ready now. I want to be back.”
Coady will get a couple of days training in before the squad heads home, but no gametime.
It’ll be his first taste of Bruno Lage’s ideas, although he did share a text conversation the pair had in the early days of the new manager’s reign.
Coady’s return means that Adama Traore is now the only senior Wolves player missing from pre-season.
It seems likely he’ll link up with his teammates upon their return to England.
