Wolverhampton Wanderers were beaten 1-0 by Crewe Alexandra yesterday but for many, the only important thing was seeing Raul Jimenez back in Old Gold again.

The ace started Bruno Lage’s first game in charge, and played just over half an hour before coming off.

It was a successful cameo for Jimenez, who came close to scoring from a free-kick.

He linked up well and looked fairly sharp, and also won a header.

It was truly fantastic to see him back out there following the awful scenes of last November.

That he has been able to recover from his fractured skull, for which he required emergency surgery, to play again is amazing.

 

Jimenez was badly missed last season.

Wolves were often toothless up top, and the fact Jimenez finished the club’s third top goalscorer, despite missing half the season, tells its own story.

But now he’s back, and his mere presence in the team will hopefully inspire those around him.

Jimenez took to Instagram last night to react to his comeback.
