Concern for Wolves as £5m player leaves pitch on a stretcher and in tears

Wolves defeated West Ham United in a pre-season friendly last night in the US, but it wasn’t all good news for the club.

Wanderers continued their fine form in pre-season, making it three wins from three games.

Wolves beat West Ham 3-1 in Jacksonville, with Rodrigo Gomes coming off the bench to score two goals – his first in and old gold shirt.

Gary O’Neil hailed Rodrigo after the game for his contributions, and fans are now seriously excited to see him in the Premier League.

It was a night of positives for O’Neil.

But there was something that happened last night that took place thousands of miles away which wasn’t so good for the club.

At the moment, Wolves have a couple of players on Olympics duty.

Midfielder Boubacar Traore is playing for Mali, and Enso Gonzalez is representing Paraguay.

The two players were due to face off against each other on Tuesday. But it now looks like that will not be happening.

In Paraguay’s latest match against Israel, Gonzalez was forced from the field just 10 minutes into the game according to Versus, who gave a brief summary of what happened.

Gonzalez was vying for the ball on the right wing and ‘fell badly after a small jump and automatically felt a pain in his knee’.

The publication say that Gonzalez asked to be substituted. Before coming off he received treatment, with Gonzalez very upset with what had happened. He ‘was seen in tears and very angry with the situation, hitting the grass and shouting to the sky’.

Worrying scenes

It is awful to see Gonzalez leaving the field on a stretcher and fans will now patiently wait for an update on the youngster.

It would be horrendous if he has done something serious, because Gonzalez will have been really keen to kick on from a first season at Wolves where he made just one cameo appearance for the first-team.

The youngster – who was a £5 million signing from Libertad – spoke recently about his debut campaign and admitted it had been tough.

It would be awful if he is now set for an extended spell on the sidelines, and fans will really hope that the situation is not as bad as it initially looks.
