Collins shares what he said to Kilman as Wolves duo return to form

Nathan Collins has said he and Maximilian Kilman agreed to stick to the basics in order to improve for Wolves.

Wanderers have been struggling in recent weeks, with goalscoring being the main issue.

But the standard of defending had also been on the wane.

Prior to Saturday, Wolves had conceded 14 goals in six games. Comparatively, Wolves shipped just four in their first six.

Collins and Kilman showed signs early on that they are a very good pairing.

But in recent games, both have looked a little shaky.

However, they were back to somewhere near their best on Saturday in the 1-1 draw with Brentford, with Collins particularly impressive.

Ivan Toney was always going to be a big threat.

But he was handled pretty well in the end, and £20 million summer signing Collins has now revealed he and Kilman simply went back to basics in order to get back to form.

He told the Express & Star: “I’ll back Max all day long as a centre-back partner.

“We had a game or two when we were off it and I said to him ‘listen, we’ll stick to the basics and get the simple things right. If it has to go long, do it, if we need to head it out then do it’.

“We just had to be defenders and that’s what we did.”

Collins and Kilman form is going to be absolutely crucial for Wolves this season

It was good to see the backline looking much better against Brentford.

Wolves are again having huge struggles putting the ball in the back of the net. So that puts a lot of pressure on the centre-backs to keep solid.

If it’s going to be so hard to score, then Wolves at least have to make it hard again for the opposition to do the same.
