Club told ‘you have to sell’ if Wolves make bid for new Angel Di Maria

Universidad de Chile are being urged to cash in on Dario Osorio as Wolves renew their interest in the Premier League-linked forward.

This time last year, when sporting director Matt Hobbs was reportedly on the verge of bringing 19-year-old Dario Osorio to Molineux, the winger had just come off the back of an outstanding breakthrough campaign in the Chilean top flight, scoring seven goals in total.

Flash forward 12 months and, while The Sun and Express and Star reports that there is still interest from Wolves, Osorio’s reputation is not quite what it was. Comparisons with Raphinha and Gareth Bale have dissipated, while the teenager’s ‘new Angel di Maria’ nickname appears to be weighing heavily upon him.

Hence why Cesar Vaccia, who guided Universidad to a pair of Primera Division de Chile titles nearly a quarter of a century ago, believes the time is right to cash in.

Wolves are still keen on Dario Osorio

“It may be a good time to sell him. You have to do it”, Vaccia tells RedGol

“He is two-footed, talented. He has everything to succeed. (But) since he is not to the taste of the coach, it is time to go abroad.”

A ‘shadow’ of his former self; Osorio has scored just one goal and provided no assists in his last 11 games. That has not stopped Wolves from maintaining their interest, however, while The Sun believe West Ham United could also make a second offer in the region of £7.5 million after failing with an initial £5.5 million bid in 2022.

“They have to sell. No doubt. Let them sell him,” argues former Universidad defender Roberto Reynero.

“Tomorrow, God forbid, Osorio gets injured (and we can no longer cash in). You have to sell him. You have to take advantage of selling him for a good amount of money.

“Sometimes players are overrated. Osorio has not been playing well. He is not a starter.”
