Club now working overtime to sign Wolves’ £4.5m gem this summer

One club are said to be working extremely hard right now to try and sign one of Wolves’ most promising players.

Wolves have been making moves this summer, with four additions being made already.

After the club turned Tommy Doyle’s loan move permanent, Wolves then signed Rodrigo Gomes, Jorgen Strand Larsen and Pedro Lima.

But fans are now expecting some players to be on their way out.

There has been plenty of speculation about captain Max Kilman, with West Ham United extremely keen to sign the 27-year-old and reunite him with Julen Lopetegui.

But there’s also been talk of some fringe and loan players leaving, such as the likes of Goncalo Guedes and Daniel Podence.

And one man who may yet depart, is Yerson Mosquera.

Last season, Mosquera finished his loan spell at FC Cincinnati, before heading to Villarreal in January.

He had really impressed in the US, and Wolves then knew they needed to send him to a higher standard of league.

A move to Villarreal was perfect. It offered him a chance to test himself against better players, and it would also be somewhere he’d be fairly comfortable as a Spanish speaker.

Mosquera made 18 appearances for them and definitely caught the eye.

So much so that El Periódico Mediterráneo have reported that he is Villarreal’s ‘Plan A’ to strengthen their defence this summer.

Their CEO Fernando Roig Negueroles and director of football Miguel Ángel Tena are said to be working overtime to try and land Mosquera, who has already been approved by manager Marcelino.

The club are said to like the fact he is young and versatile.

Villarreal will have difficulty

Mosquera has done well over the last 18 months or so to get his career back on track, after sustaining a serious hamstring injury shortly after joining Wolves for around £4.5 million.

He impressed with Cincinnati and Villarreal, and it is little wonder the latter would like to re-sign him.

But it’s going to be hard for them. Gary O’Neil is waiting to welcome the player back from the Copa America and will be taking a close look at him in pre-season.

The manager is thought to admire Mosquera and feels there’s potential for him to make an impact in 2024/25.

It was reported earlier this week, after the singing of Strand Larsen, that O’Neil wants to get Wolves playing with a back four again. One wonders if Mosquera could be one of the two starting centre-backs in 2024/25, especially with all the current talk about Kilman.
