Club now ‘willing to sell’ former Wolves star to Saudi Arabia less than one year after leaving Molineux

One former Wolves player has seen his future go in an unwanted direction less than a year after his Molineux departure.

Things look to be on the up at Wolves based on the tremendous start Gary O’Neil and Matt Hobbs have made to the summer transfer window.

Already, the Old Gold have recruited four new players to bolster the squad, with Jorgen Strand Larsen and Pedro Lima being the latest to join the pack.

While the early work of the summer window is encouraging for the Midlands club, one former player is facing a less desired outlook just a year after leaving Wolves.

Matheus Nunes could now move to Saudi Arabia a year after forcing transfer away from Wolves

Last summer, Matheus Nunes made himself go from hero to zero at Molineux, as the 25-year-old pushed for a transfer out of Wolves on deadline day.

The Portgual international refused to train as he learned of Manchester City’s interest, subsequently forcing his way out of the club to join Pep Guardiola’s project.

Now, less than a year down the line, Nunes’ decision to leave Wolves is looking rather silly, as The Athletic have detailed City’s desire to offload the player.

In a transfer round-up, The Athletic reported that the former Wolves ace ‘could move’ to the Saudi Pro League this summer if interest was to swing his way.

It’s claimed that City would be ‘willing to sell’ Nunes to generate funds and to offload the number of players fighting for game time at the Etihad.

Wolves will be laughing as they generated £53m from his sale in 2023 and showed little sign of missing the player over the 2023/24 campaign.

Wolves were right to offload Nunes

After having an average debut season at Wolves in 2022/23, time has told that Nunes flew the nest too soon as his eyes lit up to join Manchester City.

Over the 2023/24 season, the Portuguese midfielder secured only seven league starts for City, playing only 654 Premier League minutes over the entire campaign.

The 25-year-old was disposable at Wolves to the tune of £53m and is following a similar path at City, where his future looks uncertain after a disappointing first season.

In what could have been a promising time in England for Nunes had he made sensible career choices, the Portugal international could now be set to move to Saudi Arabia as he falls down the pecking order at City.
