Clinton Morrison says he couldn’t believe it when news came through of Nuno Espirito Santo’s impending departure from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The club are facing Manchester United in their final game of the 2020/21 season today, and emotions are high.
Nuno is taking charge for the final time, and departs after four years at Molineux.
There have been plenty of opinions about the decision from fans and pundits alike.
Some feel it is the right thing for the club to move forward, while others are of the opinion that Wolves could now start to struggle.
Former Premier League striker Morrison has had his say on Gillette Soccer Special today, and has admitted he was very surprised.
He said (1.48pm): “I couldn’t believe it when I heard it – I thought it was someone having a laugh. He’s been fantastic.
“He won’t be out of a job for long. Obviously we’re talking about how the Tottenham job’s available, why not? He’d be a brilliant candidate.
“The only reason he’s leaving, it must be because he’s getting another job. I know it’s mutual consent but, I’m not having that.”
Morrison also mentioned things such as the injuries to Raul Jimenez and Pedro Neto and losing Diogo Jota last summer.
Time will tell
It remains to be seen what happens from here.
It would be no surprise though if Nuno did head back to Portugal in order to spend some time with his family given the tough time he’s had not being with them.
Even if he does take another job fairly quickly though, he should go with the complete blessing of Wolves fans.
