One Wolves star hailed as ‘best player on the park’ in 2-0 win over West Brom

Wolves are through to the fifth round of the FA Cup after beating West Bromwich Albion 2-0 at the Hawthorns today in a game marred by crowd trouble.

Pedro Neto scored his second goal of the season, striking on the counter in the first-half.

Matheus Cunha then added a second, firing in after being played in by Max Kilman.

In beating Albion today, Wanderers have finally banished the unwanted record of having not won at the Hawthorns for 28 years.

Neto and Cunha got the goals, but in the eyes of Chris Waddle, there was one player out there today who was cut above everyone…

With Joao Gomes still suspended, there was another chance in midfield for Tommy Doyle to impress.

The 22-year-old on loan from Manchester City has been in really good form lately, and today he was starting his fourth game in row for Wanderers.

Derby matches can be feisty affairs, and the calmness of Doyle was absolutely ideal at times today for Wanderers.

The youngster was always offering himself as an option in the deep areas of the midfield, and used the ball really smartly. And Doyle, as always, ran his socks off alongside Mario Lemina.

Chris Waddle was providing comments for BBC Sport, and was very impressed with the maestro.

He said: “I think Wolves have just edged it. Wolves have found it hard to get in behind but they got West Brom on the counter attack.

“Best player on the park is Tommy Doyle without a shadow of a doubt.”

Later in the second-half, Waddle added: “I like Tommy Doyle’s work rate and how he plays the game. He is an all-round midfield player.”

What a player

Doyle continues to show that Wolves really need to buy him later this year.

Todya’s game was intense and frantic at times, but Doyle never let the occasion get to him.

The youngster will now have given Wanderers head coach Gary O’Neil a very big selection dilemma ahead of the next game with Manchester United.

Joao Gomes will be available again, but it’s very hard to see how O’Neil can drop Doyle following his past four appearances.
