Chris Sutton drops ‘on fire’ claim as he issues Wolves vs Bournemouth prediction

Wolves are riding the crest of a wave after recording a four-match unbeaten run in the Premier League.

The mood around Molineux has quickly transformed during this run, with the fans once adamant Gary O’Neil should exit Wolves, and now talks of his sacking have died down.

Last weekend, the Old Gold secured an impressive 4-1 victory over Fulham, following on from their 2-0 win against Southampton.

Supporters will be hoping that positive momentum will continue this weekend as they host Bournemouth in the Premier League.

The Cherries are 13th in the table however, last time out they were beaten 2-1 by Brighton in a match which saw Antoine Semenyo receive a suspension for the visit to Wolves.

Ahead of the game, Paul Merson predicted Wolves to beat Bournemouth, with Chris Sutton now sharing his verdict on the match.

Chris Sutton hails Matheus Cunha in Wolves vs Bournemouth prediction

Sutton, who wrote his prediction for BBC Sport, was unsurprisingly full of praise for Wolves forward Matheus Cunha.

The 25-year-old has decimated defences this term, scoring seven and assisting three in 12 matches, with Manchester United wanting Cunha as a result.

Sutton thinks Bournemouth will struggle to live with the Brazilian but the former striker does think the spoils will be shared at Molineux.

“Fair play to Wolves boss Gary O’Neil for his side’s run of form,” he wrote. “They are on a gentler run of fixtures now, after such a tough start to the season, and with two wins and two draws from their past four games it looks like they have turned the corner.

“Even so, it is fair to say I did not see Wolves’ big win at Fulham coming, but Matheus Cunha is on fire at the moment and will take some stopping here.

“I don’t think Bournemouth will keep Wolves out but they always create plenty of opportunities themselves. They were unlucky to lose to Brighton last time out, and it was a similar story against Brentford as well.”

Prediction: Wolves 2-2 Bournemouth.

Gary O’Neil says Matheus Cunha will not be leaving Wolves in January

With Cunha in the form of his life, speculation over his future has predictably emerged, leaving Wolves fans feeling nervous ahead of January.

Luckily, those worries were calmed on Friday, as it was revealed Wolves are in talks over a new contract for Cunha, including a ‘lucrative’ wage increase.

Meanwhile, in his pre-match press conference, O’Neil was asked about the striker’s contract situation, and he reassured supporters that his star man will not be leaving Molineux in January.

“I want him to perform at the highest level. Our relationship is exceptionally good and I don’t foresee any problems (with him going) in January. Contract-wise, I’ll leave it to the club. Matheus will definitely not leave in January,” O’Neil said as per journalist Liam Keen.

Ahead of an important game against Bournemouth, being reassured about Cunha’s immediate future will please Wolves fans and such news could be the catalyst for three points.
