Chris Sutton drops honest new Wolves relegation verdict in score prediction for Everton

Wolves are looking to back up their win over West Ham United by beating Everton in the Premier League on Wednesday.

Rob Edwards got his and Wolves’ first win on Saturday at Molineux, with Mateus Mane starring.

It was a great performance and result for Wolves, that many felt had been coming given recent improvements.

But Wolves now have to try and make that result count, with Everton up next.

The Toffees have just lost 4-2 to Brentford and have been rather inconsistent this season, meaning this is an opportunity for Wolves to get back-to-back wins.

The win over West Ham has just allowed fans to feel a bit more optimistic again.

But pundit Chris Sutton isn’t getting carried away.

Wolves now have a bit of wind in their sails for the first time this season.

The Old Gold have played well for the last three games against Liverpool, Manchester United and West Ham, and picked up four points.

Wolves are now 12 points from safety, which is allowing some fans to just have a tiny bit more hope of survival.

But for Chris Sutton, Wolves are still staring down the barrel of relegation.

In his score prediction for the game against Everton, who he thinks will win 2-1 against Wolves, he said (via BBC Sport): “My little pal Ali Bruce-Ball covered Wolves’ win against West Ham on Saturday and said Mateus Mane really impressed him.

“At last they have a victory under their belts, and their fans have something to smile about too.

“Can Rob Edwards’ side keep this up and pull off what would be a truly great escape from relegation? Sorry, Wolves fans, but the answer is no.

“Everton boss David Moyes could do with some reinforcements in the January transfer window, but I don’t see his side losing two on the spin at home.”

How Wolves have fared vs Everton recently

In terms of the last five meetings between these two sides, there has been a mixed bag.

Wolves won the last meeting in the Carabao Cup 2-0, but before that Everton won the last Premier League meeting 3-2. Before that in the final meeting at Goodison Park last season, the teams drew 1-1.

Everton trounced Wolves 4-0 in December 2024, but Wolves won the meeting before that 3-0 at Molineux.

Of course, Wolves will make their first trip ever to Everton’s new Hill Dickinson Stadium on Wednesday night so it’ll be interesting to see how the team gets on.

This term, the Toffees’ new home hasn’t quite been the fortress they’d been hoping to make it – they’ve won four, drawn two and lost four.
