Chiquinho has posted on Instagram, after the young winger made his debut for the first-team in yesterday’s FA Cup defeat to Norwich City.
The star, who was celebrating his 22nd birthday, was sent on by Bruno Lage in the second-half of Wanderers’ 1-0 defeat to the Canaries at Molineux.
Kenny McLean got the goal for the visitors, with Wolves miles off it compared to recent weeks.
It may have been that the winter break came at the wrong time for Wolves, who had won all their matches in January.
Yesterday, Wolves were seriously poor, especially in the first-half.
Lage had hoped for a cup run. But his side fell well short despite having more of the ball in the game.
Ultimately the team struggled to fashion any good quality chances. To go out of the competition a stage earlier than last season is highly disappointing.
Perhaps one small positive of the afternoon was the cameo of Chiquinho.
The star, who signed last month from Estoril for a reported £3 million initially (The Athletic), replaced Leander Dendoncker with around 15 minutes to go.
The youngster whipped in a couple of great balls.
After the game, Chiquinho posted in Instagram following his proud moment. He said: “A very special day to make my debut for @wolves. Unfortunately the result today was not the best but still very grateful for this moment. Thank you to all the fans for the support.
He also said via his Story: “Thank you Wolves for making my dream come true in this day so important to me.”
Chiquinho debut was encouraging as Wolves disappoint
Many a Wolves fans will be feeling frustrated today, but Chiquinho’s showing was a miniscule positive to take.
He didn’t have very long to make an impact. But the two balls he put in were impressive.
Hopefully he will build on this brief display and work hard in training to keep himself in contention for minutes.
The fact Wolves looked slightly more threatening after he came on yesterday is a good sign. And it might just be Lage is ready to give him some chances before the return of Pedro Neto.
