Celta Vigo fans are really not happy with Fer Lopez, pre-season clash vs Wolves to ‘stir mixed feelings’

Wolves are overjoyed by Fer Lopez’s arrival, but the Spaniard’s transfer has left many back in Spain upset.

Lopez was unveiled as Wolves’ first signing of the summer, arriving from Celta Vigo just as Jorgen Strand Larsen did last year.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder is tipped to be a success in Vitor Pereira’s squad, with whom he will join for pre-season.

It’s already thought that Lopez will make a positive impact in the Premier League, as after only one season at senior level in La Liga, the youngster made quite the impression.

Though Wolves have struck gold by acquiring the highly-rated starlet, Lopez’s transfer has left some at Celta Vigo quite unsettled.

Celta Vigo fans aren’t happy with Fer Lopez’s transfer

Following the completion of the transfer, Celta Vigo expert Jose Riveiro caught up with Wolves’ official website to provide an insight into the Old Gold’s new player.

While praising Lopez and comparing him to Jude Bellingham, Riveiro revealed one negative thing about the midfielder’s move.

The expert was asked about the reaction of those at Celta Vigo following Lopez’s exit, revealing that things haven’t been ‘particularly positive’.

“The reaction hasn’t been particularly positive,” Riveiro said, before revealing why this is.

“Many Celta fans saw him as the club’s next big thing, a local prospect with the potential to become a legend.

“Some fans are upset, feeling that he’s chosen to leave for money and adventure in England rather than stay and grow with Celta.”

Given the quality that Lopez displayed during his breakthrough season at Celta, it’s understandable why fans are hurt by his departure, but for the player, Wolves’ offer was irrefutable – and not because of money.

“When it’s a club like this, you have little to think about,” Lopez said upon arriving at Wolves, admitting that leaving Celta was far from easy.

“It’s true, it was very hard to leave my boyhood club, but I was very pleased to come here and play in, with LaLiga, I think, the best league in the world.”

If there’s one English club Celta now aren’t a fan of, it’s Wolves, as the Old Gold have raided the Spanish side for two summers in a row.

Wolves’ pre-season friendly expected to cause upset

Such could make things quite tasty in pre-season, as Wolves and Celta meet in a pre-season friendly on August 9th at Molineux.

Interestingly, when speaking about Celta fans’ feelings about Lopez, Riveiro commented on the upcoming clash between the two sides.

“It’ll be emotional for many supporters to see two former Celta players – especially one considered a future symbol of the club – lining up against them [for Wolves in pre-season] and it might stir mixed feelings.

“Some fans will be proud, others disappointed. It will definitely be a talking point.”

Strand Larsen played a role in Lopez signing for Wolves, making the meeting between the two clubs all the more interesting this summer.

Celta’s frustrations only symbolise the talent Wolves captured in Lopez, who will be eager to impress in pre-season.
