Bruno Lage has hailed the professionalism and influence of his captain Conor Coady as Wolves prepare to host Leeds tonight.
At his pre-match press conference, Lage was asked about Coady, who has been named in Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad for the games to come against Switzerland and the Ivory Coast.
Coady of course scored the winner and helped Wolves keep a clean sheet in their 1-0 win against Everton last time out.
“Coady last time was so important defensively and offensively, because he scored a goal like a striker!” said Lage.
“The centre-backs are so compact, they know how to work together but it is teamwork and the whole team.
“No surprise that he is involved with England at all. He is one of the best guys I know in football. Every time with the big ambition, every time first in the building in the morning.
“Every time, bringing motivation to everyone. The leadership is by example. He is one of the best and I am very happy to work with him.”
Coady came back from Euro 2020 with very little turnaround to get to grips with what his manager wanted from him and has kicked on throughout the season.
Some English players have had a hangover from the summer but not Coady, and he has arguably gone to a new level this term.
His off-field influence is also clear in terms of leadership as a captain and Lage must be thrilled with his captain, who has international recognition to his name once more.
