One fixture in the Champions League will draw attention to Wolves as two familiar faces are set to battle.
Since featuring in the Europa League with Nuno Espirito Santo, Wolves haven’t been near European competition.
The Old Gold were talked about as candidates for a European finish last season as Gary O’Neil’s side hit impressive form however, such discussion has dramatically quietened since.
Now, O’Neil’s side sit 20th in the Premier League table after eight games played, picking up just one point in the process although the club might be alerted to Wednesday night’s Champions League action.

Bruno Lage set to face Hugo Bueno in the Champions League
On match day three of the 2024/25 Champions League, Feyenoord and Benfica go head to head, in what is a significant game for Wolves.
Why you might ask? Because Bruno Lage’s Benfica will come up against Hugo Bueno’s loan club to battle for three points.
Bueno departed Wolves in the summer to join the Eredivisie side on loan for the season, where he has since made his Champions League debut.

It’s been a long road for the Spaniard at Molineux, with his career set to go somewhat full circle on Wednesday night as he faces the manager that promoted him to Wolves’ first team.
In September 2022, it was announced by the club that Lage had promoted three academy talents to the senior team, one of which being Bueno.
At the time, Lage described the defender as a player noticeable due to the way he was ‘improving’.
The manager named Bueno on the bench in the Premier League a number of times before he departed, leading the fullback to earn his debut in the top-flight shortly after Lage’s dismissal.

It will be an exciting night for Bueno, who could feature in front of Lage, who for all of his faults, showed faith in players such as the Spaniard.
Julen Lopetegui was equally impressed by the 22-year-old’s quality however, there’s no spot for the defender in O’Neil’s current squad.

That brings Bueno to his loan spell at Feyenoord, where he’s had a trialling start due to injury however, Brian Priske shared a positive update on the Wolves loanee ahead of the Champions League clash.
“Hugo is still recovering, but has travelled with us and will train with us. Hopefully his foot will respond well to that and he can play,” Priske said via Feyenoord’s official website.
A few years ago, not many would have expected the two figures with ties to Wolves to go head to head in the Champions League, on what is poised to be a special night for all involved.
