Bruno Lage hails John Ruddy and wants him to sign a new deal at Wolves

Bruno Lage wants John Ruddy to sign a new deal at Wolves, and admitted he deserves to play more.

The 35-year-old stands to leave the club at the end of the season.

The veteran has only been able to make five appearances this term, with Jose Sa absolutely flourishing between the sticks since his move last summer.

£7 million signing Sa (Sky Sports) has featured in every single Premier League game so far.

That has meant Ruddy has started in the cup games.

He may not have featured very much this season. But Ruddy has still played an important role for the club in its push for European football.

Lage credits the former Norwich City man with pushing Sa to the high level he’s at.

He said (Express & Star): “He is a leader by example and works hard every day.

“If Jose is having a fantastic season it is because John is there. John is so important for us and I have no problem saying he deserves to play more. But Jose for now is having a fantastic season.”

In Lage’s mind, there is no doubt it would be better if Ruddy did sign an extension at Molineux.

“In my opinion, yes,” he added.

“I don’t know what he has in his mind but we need a day to talk about it.”

John Ruddy still hugely important for Wolves

The importance of having leaders and strong characters in the dressing room cannot be overstated.

It is a well known fact that Ruddy is a massive influence at Wolves. He is extremely respected behind the scenes.

If he is happy to extend his stay at Molineux, then Wolves should not think twice about handing him another year.

Not only does he push those around him to be better, but Ruddy has still shown this season that he can come in and do a solid job.

Last October, Ruddy had said he wasn’t wanting to retire any time soon. Perhaps that’s a sign he will indeed agree another year.
