Bruno Lage has provided an update on defender Fernando Marcal, after he missed the game against Leeds United on Saturday.
The Brazilian had been ever-present for Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League up until the clash at Elland Road.
The 32-year-old missed out on a ninth appearance because he had ‘felt his calf’ earlier in the week.
It makes sense that Marcal had an issue, with the player posting photos of himself doing mobility work last week.
There was no word on him from Lage in the lead up to the game though.
On not providing any information on the South American, Lage said: “He (Marcal) felt his calf during the week and he didn’t travel with us. So I took the decision for Rayan (to play).
“I didn’t say anything because the opponent’s manager would start to think of problems for Rayan (Ait-Nouri).
“The most important thing, that I want for my players, is you need to be ready and fit to play 90 minutes because today I needed Rayan and Ki.”
Lage added that Marcal will likely be available for selection against Everton on Monday.
The Toffees lost 5-2 to Watford at the weekend, meaning another good chance for Wolves.
Lage has a decision to make
Ait-Nouri did well in Marcal’s absence at Elland Road.
Fans were left heaping praise in the young Frenchman, who was lively at left wing-back.
He was involved a fair bit, and did well coming up against a big threat in Raphinha.
Ait-Nouri did actually grab an assist in one of the games against the Toffees last term, so there’s a chance he can keep his place.
Lage has shown unwavering faith in £35,000-a-week star Marcal (Spotrac) so far this season.
But perhaps Ait-Nouri will now get the chance to kick on after a positive display against the Whites.
