Ben Foster can’t believe what he’s heard about Wolves after their loss to Newcastle United

Wolves have endured a nightmare start to the new Premier League season, losing all four of their opening fixtures.

Vitor Pereira’s men remain pointless at the bottom of the table, with the Old Gold set to be involved in a relegation battle for the second consecutive season.

Wolves fans are growing impatient with Pereira, as the team’s performances have yet to show any major signs of improvement.

The Old Gold’s recent struggles have been partly down to the absence of Jorgen Strand Larsen, with the team clearly missing his attacking presence in defeats to Everton and Newcastle.

Former Premier League goalkeeper Ben Foster has expressed his shock over Wolves’ poor points return, echoing the concerns of supporters.

Ben Foster left stunned by Wolves statistic following Newcastle defeat

Wolves have picked up just one point out of a possible 21, a woeful run that stretches back to the end of last season.

This weekend, the West Midlands outfit host Leeds in a clash that is already being considered a six-pointer in the battle to avoid the drop.

The 1-0 defeat to Newcastle meant it was Wolves’ worst start to a campaign in 127 years.

Ben Foster was shocked by the club’s alarming run of poor form, struggling to comprehend how the club has carried their struggles from the end of last season into the new one.

He said in a new video on his YouTube channel: “Oh my gosh. Didn’t they win like six in a row last season or something like that towards the end of the season?”

And Tom Ochoa replied: “I said this last season. Don’t be fooled, when the whole thing about teams being on the beach, and you go on a little run.”

Wolves finished last season on a miserable note, losing away to Manchester City, suffering a home defeat to Brighton, being battered at Crystal Palace, before drawing 1-1 with Brentford at Molineux on the last day of the season.

How Periera can rescue Wolves’ season

Periera has the chance to turn Wolves’ season around for the second consecutive season, but to achieve this he must adopt the approach that brought him success last term.

Last season, the Portuguese manager quickly found his best starting team and he must repeat this so that his side can build some much-needed rhythm and confidence.

The 3-5-2 system, which he deployed last weekend against Newcastle, suits this current group of players and should be the formation he persists with.

Strand-Larsen came close to leaving Wolves in the summer, but now the club can partner him with new signing Tolu Arokodare in a physical front two.

A return to a more pragmatic, counter-attacking style could also help, rather than the higher-press approach that hasn’t been effective in matches this season.

With these changes in place, Periera could recreate last season’s momentum and give Wolves a real chance to climb out of the relegation zone.
