Ben Chilwell offers two reasons why Wolves easily beat Chelsea

Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell believes Wolves won so convincingly at Stamford Bridge because they ‘wanted it more’, and also praised their ruthlessness in front of goal.

Wanderers have moved up to 10th place in the Premier League table, after a stunning 4-2 win down in west London.

Matheus Cunha scored a hat-trick, with Axel Disasi scoring an own goal after great work from the brilliant Pedro Neto and Rayan Ait-Nouri.

It was the first time Wolves had won at Stamford Bridge since 1979, and another result that has seen Gary O’Neil‘s stock as a manager rise.

Wolves were by far the better team – and after the game, Ben Chilwell offered two reasons why the visitors were able to win so easily…

Chelsea have had their struggles in recent times, but before this game they were favourites to win.

Wolves had just suffered a demoralising defeat to Manchester United, and not won at Stamford Bridge for many years.

This should have been a Chelsea win, but from the first whistle, Wolves outfought their opponents and showed a tremendous desire to get something from the game.

Chilwell believes that desire was one reason Wolves won, admitting (via chelseafc.com): “I think they showed that they ‘wanted it’ more than us. That’s not to say that we didn’t want it, but I think they just showed that bit more fight than us.

“There’s no excuses but they seemed to win more duels, they seemed to run more than us and from when they scored the first goal, they just seemed to dominate.”

Wolves scored four goals for the second time this season in the Premier League, and Chilwell also praised Wanderers’ ruthlessness in west London.

“We need to be more clinical, like Wolves were at the other end and I think that’s probably what the difference was overall,” he added.

The perfect performance

This was the best Wolves’ performance of the season and potentially one of the best in recent years.

To have gone to Stamford Bridge and won so convincingly, just days after that bitterly disappointing defeat against Manchester United, is absolutely amazing. To have done this without the red-hot Hwang Hee-chan as well just makes it even better.

To a man, Wolves were sensational and were better than the Blues in every department.

This squad is packed with quality, but it is also clear that every single player wants to work his socks off and they all believe in what Gary O’Neil is trying to do.

After a tough past couple of years, Wolves fans finally appear to have a team they can be truly proud of again.
