BBC pundit says Wolves duo ‘traumatised’ Chelsea as one makes his Team of the Week

Garth Crooks has praised Wolves duo Matheus Cunha and Pedro Neto for their thrilling performances in the 4-2 win over Chelsea on Sunday.

Wanderers have moved into the top half of the Premier League table after beating the Blues at Stamford Bridge.

It was a terrific performance from the visitors, especially after losing so frustratingly to Manchester United just days earlier.

Gary O’Neil‘s side were no match for Chelsea, and worked harder and were clinical in the final third.

There were many fantastic individual performances for Wanderers. Mario Lemina and Joao Gomes were both really good in the midfield.

But Cunha – who scored a hat-trick – and Neto were exceptional – and Garth Crook named one of them in his latest Team of the Week…

Cunha and Neto have been coming in for plenty of plaudits since the game on Sunday.

The Chelsea defenders simply couldn’t live with their pace and direct dribbling, with the full-backs Ben Chilwell and Malo Gusto having particularly tough times.

Cunha produced arguably his very best display in a Wolves shirt, with Gary O’Neil lauding his Brazilian forward once again after the game. Captain Max Kilman also praised his teammate.

Crooks has included Cunha in his latest Premier League Team of the Week, but also had a work for Neto. He said (BBC Sport): ” All credit to Wolves, who recovered brilliantly from their 97th-minute defeat at home to Manchester United to then go and put four goals past Chelsea in a matter of days. That said, Chelsea were woeful against Liverpool but even worse against Wolves.

“The men that traumatised the home side were Matheus Cunha, who scored the goals, and Pedro Neto who provided them. The Brazilian striker exploited every mistake Chelsea made – and there were plenty. How can Chelsea have a billion-dollar team whose best defender is 39 years of age and no world-class centre-forward? Meanwhile Gary O’Neil’s position at Molineux goes from strength to strength.”

Cunha is a magnificent player

It must be an absolute nightmare to defend against a player like Matheus Cunha.

The 24-year-old is an outstanding ball-carrier, and is extremely difficult to knock off the ball due to his great balance, upper body strength, and pace.

He is a bit like Adama Traore, although not quite as fast and strong. But he is certainly a better dribbler than his former teammate and has a better end product.

Wolves have a player of serious quality on their hands in Cunha, and it’s amazing to think he is showing this kind of level after just one year and one month in English football.
