‘Baller’: Mario Lemina wowed by 22-year-old Wolves player after Newcastle display

Wolves took a point against Newcastle United yesterday to continue their good form in the Premier League.

Gary O’Neil’s side are now five games unbeaten in the English top-flight.

Since changing formation against Manchester City, Wanderers have picked up eight points.

The addition of Toti Gomes to the backline has had a fantastic effect, with Wolves looking more solid on the whole, but not at the expense of creativity.

Yesterday against Newcastle, Wolves put in a really good display in the face of some more poor officiating.

And there was another good cameo from Tommy Doyle in the second-half, and the youngster came in for praise from Mario Lemina after the game…

Mario Lemina sends message to Tommy Doyle after Wolves 2-2 Newcastle

Doyle came on in the second-half yesterday, replacing Boubacar Traore.

Traore had struggled slightly in the game, and was a bit erratic in his work.

He worked hard, but was unable to get his foot on the ball and really boss it.

When Doyle came on, he was able to do that and used the ball much better.

It was great to see him constantly looking forward, trying to find the Wolves attackers between the lines.

He gave Wolves more control, as he did when he came on against Bournemouth.

And it seems the man he partnered in midfield Lemina appreciated his performance. Doyle uploaded on Instagram last night, and the Gabon international commented ‘Baller’.

Doyle gives Wolves more technical quality in midfield

It has been good to watch Doyle in the last couple of matches, and it’s clear he is technically very strong.

Wolves fans have gotten used to watching the ball-winning duo of Lemina and Joao Gomes in these opening weeks of the season.

It’s good that O’Neil has a technician like Doyle to call on to bring something a bit different.

Wolves needed him yesterday with Traore struggling a little.

And it was especially handy to have him when Neto went off injured.

Quite possibly, his last two displays mean he is now pushing for a first league start for Wolves against Sheffield United.
