Arne Slot delivers honest verdict on Wolves ahead of Liverpool clash, after two-point haul

Wolves take on Liverpool this weekend, and Arne Slot has been speaking ahead of the game.

Wanderers lost again last weekend in the Premier League, falling to a 2-0 defeat at Molineux to Brentford.

It was another hugely disappointing performance from the Old Gold, who could not threaten the Bees as Keane Lewis-Potter scored a brace.

Jorgen Strand Larsen missed a late penalty as his own struggles continued.

Up next, Wolves face a Liverpool side who have been getting back on track following a rather sticky period.

The Reds are unbeaten in December so far, and have won their last three in all competitions.

It will be another tough game for Wanderers, but Arne Slot believes there is reason to be wary ahead of the clash at Anfield.

It’s been a really tough start for Rob Edwards, who has lost all six games he’s taken so far.

It was never going to be easy given the construction of this squad, and it’s clear that Wolves need to get busy in January.

Wolves are looking to strengthen six positions, but with players likely to leave, it could well be more.

For now though Edwards must find solutions from within, as he prepares to take his side to Anfield.

Ahead of the game, Liverpool manager Arne Slot was complimentary about Wolves, and pointed to the recent display against Arsenal as something that struck him.

He said (via BBC Sport): “The results throughout the whole season haven’t been what they were hoping for. But they have come closer and closer to results.

“They were very close to a result at Arsenal. As always, there is a challenge in every Premier League games and it’s the same in this one.”

Wolves must reproduce Arsenal performance vs Liverpool

The display against Arsenal recently was perhaps the best we’ve seen under Edwards so far.

Yes, they still lost that game. But the Old Gold were genuinely really unlucky, and for the most part they were extremely organised.

To get anything against Liverpool at Anfield, we’ll need to see a performance that is similar to that one against Arsenal.

It’s going to be a tall order to get something. But Wolves have shown they can mix it with the top teams. Theo Walcott also theorised Wolves prefer playing away from Molineux due to less pressure, which may well be a relevant factor.

They have got to keep things tight at the back, and then be ruthless – a message Edwards has been trying to drive home – when they get into dangerous positions. That likely won’t be happening too often, so the players have to make those moments count.
