There were plenty of promising displays from Wolves players on Saturday night against Arsenal, but Andy Thompson’s standout pick might be unpopular.
For the Old Gold, Mateus Mane and Tolu Arokodare’s cameo appearances were the main talking points of the action, but the defensive players were also exceptional.
Wolves frustrated Arsenal for most of the game, and that is something that not every side in the Premier League can do.
And following the full-time whistle, Andy Thompson selected an intriguing pick for his man of the match, and you can also have your say below.
Despite defeat, there were plenty of positives to take away from that Wolves performance.
Andy Thompson picks Yerson Mosquera as his man of the match

Although Yerson Mosquera’s own goal took one point away, the Colombian defender seemed to impress former Wolves defender Andy Thompson.
Overall, the defensive side of the Old Gold’s performance was excellent. They kept Arsenal quiet throughout most of the game, and it took two own goals to score past them.
Other than those, the Gunners looked out of ideas, and that was down to a great shift by the defenders. Due to that, Andy Thompson has awarded Mosquera the man of the match despite what happened in the final few minutes.
Thompson said via the Official Wolves Podcast, “I thought Mosquera did alright. I know he got the own goal at the end, but I thought the back three looked better, and because he got the own goal, I’ll give it to him to cheer him up.”
Put yourself in Rob Edwards’ shoes. How do you lift the Wolves players’ spirits after losing in the manner they did vs Arsenal?
The Colombian will be disappointed, but his performance other than that was quite good. It will be important for the player to not let that own goal overshadow the clear positives.

Yerson Mosquera’s defensive stats vs Arsenal
Throughout the 90 minutes, Yerson Mosquera was heavily involved in the defensive duties, and he did do them effectively.
The Wolves player competed in six duels, winning five of them, with him and Matt Doherty keeping Gabriel Martinelli quiet.
Additionally, he made eight clearances, four recoveries, and one block. It was a solid defensive display. However, the own goal ends up knocking his rating down.
With Emmanuel Agbadou away at AFCON, he will likely play even more minutes, and Rob Edwards must not allow that own goal to affect him.
