Andy Thompson says ‘relentless’ Wolves player has never once disappointed him since he signed

Andy Thompson has lauded one Wolves player he says has never once disappointed him since his arrival at the club.

Wolves are in the hat for the fifth-round draw of the FA Cup after beating Blackburn Rovers on Sunday.

Wolves won 2-0 at Ewood Park, with Joao Gomes and Matheus Cunha both on target for the visitors.

It was a confident performance from Wolves after some early struggles to get a foothold, and in truth, it could have finished a much bigger scoreline.

That said, Wolves did get slightly fortunate when Blackburn saw a goal ruled out for offside. But there was no VAR to intervene.

Many Wolves players had good games in Lancashire.

Wolves fans really liked the debut of Marshall Munetsi, who came in midway through the second-half.

And Emmanuel Agbadou – who Chris Sutton hailed – continued his great form since signing from Reims.

After the game, Andy Thompson made sure another star got his flowers.

Many fans were pleased to see Rodrigo Gomes back starting again for Wolves against Blackburn.

Since Vitor Pereira came in at Molineux, the young Portuguese star has been one of the team’s best players.

Pereira declared that Rodrigo is a player for the present, a view that former manager Gary O’Neil didn’t really share, and the youngster looks to be relishing an increased level of game time.

He played as a left wing-back on Sunday against Blackburn, and he was just superb.

Rodrigo was more defensive in the first-half when Wolves faced a little more pressure. At one point, he snuffed out a dangerous Blackburn breakaway led by Amario Cozier-Duberry, when it looked like he was second-favourite.

In the second-half he was a constant outlet, and almost laid on an assist for Munetsi to score on his debut.

Andy Thompson felt he was Wolves’ best player, and admitted he’s constantly impressed by the former Braga man.

He said on Matchday Live Extra: “I thought he had another good game.

“He gives us that energy. I haven’t been disappointed by him this year yet, with the way that he’s played. I just think that he just keeps going. He’s relentless in his work and he’s always there and available for the ball and he’s a willing runner as well.”

Rodrigo Gomes is a gem of a player

Watching Rodrigo lately, it is a travesty how little he played in the first half of the season under O’Neil.

Pereira is so right to be getting him more involved, because Rodrigo is a player for now, and someone who’ll be absolutely adored at Molineux – if he isn’t already.

Rodrigo’s work rate is outstanding. But he also clearly carries an attacking threat. These things make him a seriously valuable player to have in the team.

His versatility is also extremely handy.

Pereira has managed him well so far, and Rodrigo could well make himself undroppable before too much longer – something many Wolves fans will be able to get on board with.
