Andy Thompson says ‘outstanding’ ace was easily Wolves’ best player in Bournemouth win

Wolves recorded a huge win over Bournemouth and for Andy Thompson, the best player in old gold was clear.

Wanderers won 1-0 to go five points clear of the relegation zone.

Leicester City and Ipswich Town both lost this weekend and all of a sudden, things are looking good for Wolves.

But Matheus Cunha has called for consistency, and Wolves must now try and follow this result up against Fulham on Tuesday.

And three points against the Cottagers would simply be massive for Wolves.

And key to winning that game will be the continued good form of Andre, who has come in for some very high praise from Andy Thompson.

Since Vitor Pereira came in, Andre has been virtually ever-present in Wolves’ starting XI.

He’s started nine of the 10 Premier League games Pereira has overseen so far, with the only game he missed being the Nottingham Forest clash, for which he was granted special leave.

It has been clear that Andre is a player Pereira counts on and rates highly – and against Bournemouth on Saturday he really did run the game at times.

The star was so tidy in possession, and also carried out his defensive duties really well.

After the game, Andre – who signed for the club for around £21 million (BBC Sport) – came in for huge praise from Thompson, who felt he was far and away Wolves’ best player on the day.

He said: “Andre has been outstanding today. He stood up against everyone, he showed them the strength he’s got, the composure when he’s playing, everything just seems to be neat and tidy with him.

“But when he needs to defend, he does. He gets his body there. He’s got the strength to knock people out of the way and just ease people out of play. He did it throughout the game.

“I just think him in there, he was outstanding playing in there. I think after that initial two or three weeks when he came in, I think he has been consistently playing well.”

Thompson went on to say Andre was Wolves’ best player ‘by far’ against Bournemouth.

Andre is undroppable for Wolves now

Andre has gone from strength to strength under Pereira and is now potentially in that category of ‘undroppable players’ at Molineux.

It’s a pretty exclusive club, with perhaps Cunha and Emmanuel Agbadou (when fit) the only other players in there currently.

But there is now a strong case for Andre to be an undroppable player at Wolves, because he just does so many great things.

He is an excellent screen in front of that backline, and always works his socks off. But he can also build play from deep, which is perhaps why Pereira doesn’t use Tommy Doyle much. Doyle is a deep-lying playmaker, but arguably doesn’t have the same defensive qualities as Andre.

Andre is always so calm and composed, but will get aggressive and tenacious in the right moments, and it’s brilliant to see him finally flourishing.
