Wolves Hall of Famer Andy Thompson answers questions about football today, how it compares to his playing days, and what manager he would have loved to play for.
Andy Thompson played for Wolves from 1986 to 1997, making a total of 451 appearances in his time at Molineux and meriting an induction into the Wolves Hall of Fame.

The game has changed quite a bit since he retired over 20 years ago, but Thompson is still an avid supporter of Wolves.
But one question asked to the Englishman produced an interesting answer.
Andy Thompson names Nuno Espirito Santo as the manager he would most like to play for
In the interview released on Wolves’ official website, Thompson was asked which manager in today’s game would he most like to work with. He answered: “I think I’d want to play under Nuno, but when he was here.
“I think when Nuno was here, all the players were behind him, he backed players up as well, and he’s doing a great job at Nottingham Forest at the moment, very similar to what he did here when he was at Wolves.”
Nuno enjoyed incredible success at Wolves, and Thompson’s decision to pick him over Vitor Pereira is not surprising. Nuno and Pereira have similarities in how they manage, but the success over a length of time gives the Nottingham Forest boss the edge.
Nuno’s relationship with the Wolves fans was and still is quite good, something the new gaffer would surely love to emulate.
Joao Gomes is the player Andy Thompson would love to play with
As a midfielder himself, it’s no shock to see Thompson pick a player in that position.
Joao Gomes has been quality in a Wolves shirt since arriving in 2022, and despite significant interest in this window, Wolves do not want to consider selling the 24-year-old.
Thompson is equally fond, saying: “He’s been exceptional since he’s come here, and I know he’s got a good partnership with Andre, but I’d say Joao Gomes with the way he plays, the effort and passion that he puts into every game.”
Thompson will be hoping Gomes can continue to develop at Molineux, offering stability in a side that has changed considerably since the final day of the season.
