Many Wolves fans are still gutted following Saturday’s FA Cup defeat to Coventry City, and Andy Thompson has shared what he thinks will be ‘the biggest disappointment’ for Gary O’Neil about the result.
Wolves fell to a 3-2 defeat at Molineux, having come so close to sealing a trip to Wembley.
In the end, Coventry came from behind, scoring two goals in injury-time, after Wolves had themselves come from 1-0 down to lead 2-1.
In truth, Coventry were deserved winners.
Wolves perhaps got slightly unlucky with the opening Coventry goal. But the Championship side had many chances on the day and had it not been for Jose Sa being on top form, then it could have been a thrashing.
But Wolves had the game in the palm of their hand, and Thompson was shocked at the late capitulation…
Andy Thompson very surprised by Wolves’ late collapse against Coventry

Former full-back Thompson was speaking on Matchday Live Extra after the game, and expressed his disappointment about Wolves letting their lead slip.
After Rayan Ait-Nouri and Hugo Bueno had scored, Molineux was rocking and all Wolves needed to do was defend well, make smart decisions and manage the game.
That did not happen, and Coventry capitalised.
Thompson said: “I think the Wolves fans have seen a side to Wolves they haven’t seen so far this season. Where they basically got bullied for the majority of the game. But also to throw it away at the end there – very unlike what this team has done all season.
“I think that will be the biggest disappointment to the manager. It’s the way we lost the game, the manner that Coventry battled against us, and bullied us to an extent throughout the game.”
An uncharacteristic performance, but credit Coventry
Wolves did struggle on Saturday, and it was a kind of performance we haven’t seen very often at all this season from this crop of players.
After Wanderers took the lead late on, most would have backed them to see out the game.
But poor decisions were made and seemingly the pressure got to them, and Coventry were able to execute a comeback.
Credit must go to Coventry for their performance, because they unsettled Wolves throughout and especially at the end. They deserve their place in the FA Cup semi-final.
O’Neil may have had key players missing, but he likely will be really disappointed by the manner in which the players let that lead slip.
