The search for a first Premier League win continues for Wolves, after the team drew 2-2 with Crystal Palace.
Fans had hoped to see Wolves build on their comeback against Brighton the weekend before.
Wolves did again come from behind again Palace. But poor defending meant they only took a point at Molineux.
It was a familiar story. Wolves have been in winning positions several times now this term, but have been unable to see games out.
Gary O’Neil is now under big pressure going into the next game. It’s very possible Fosun may decide to sack O’Neil if he doesn’t beat Southampton.
Against Palace, Wolves fought hard. But they were undone again by poor defending which was frustrating.
But one man really stood out for Wolves on the day, and that was Joao Gomes.

Andy Thompson raves over Joao Gomes after Palace draw

Arguably, Joao Gomes was Wolves’ best performer against Palace on Saturday.
The Brazilian had a bit of a slow start to the new season. But in recent weeks his level has been increasing.
Against Manchester City and Brighton the South American was really industrious and it was the same story against the Eagles.
Gomes played like a man possessed in the second-half, and also managed to get his first goal at Molineux and third for the club in total.
Andy Thompson delivered an emphatic verdict on Gomes after the game, believing he was Wolves’ star performer.
He said on Matchday Live Extra: “Gomes for me. I thought that he worked, he got himself a goal, he never stopped, he was chasing things down. He was trying to drive the team up, he was running with the ball, he was bouncing off people.
“Half the time he’s fighting with two players hanging off him. He’s that strong on the ball. I just thought he drove the team and tried to get the team going.”
Joao Gomes can hold his head high
Gomes is one Wolves player who can certainly hold his head high following the last few weeks.
The Brazilian has been much improved lately and is clearly still giving absolutely everything for his manager.
Gomes has huge respect for O’Neil and you can see that determination about the midfielder at the moment. He will not want to see O’Neil lose his job, given all he has done for him.
One would imagine the 23-year-old is pretty nailed on to start against Southampton given his recent displays, but who comes in alongside him is a tricky one.
Mario Lemina was praised by O’Neil for his cameo against Palace, but Tommy Doyle has also looked in recent weeks.
And then there is Andre, who has almost become something of a forgotten man recently.
It is also possible O’Neil could go with two in midfield and use three forwards like he did against Palace. Pablo Sarabia, though, would do well to keep his place after his poor showing against the Eagles.
