Former Wolves defender Andy Thompson reckons Max Kilman has found his confidence again.
Last term, Kilman was one of Wolves’ best players under Bruno Lage.
He featured on the right of a back three mostly, and wowed with his passing and ability to dribble out with the ball.
In 2022/23 so far, Kilman has clearly been adapting to playing in a back four.
He’s been decent, but not really close to the levels he was showing last term.
Just before the World Cup he was looking a little vulnerable.
But lately, Kilman has improved a lot and that appears to have coincided with Craig Dawson replacing Nathan Collins as his centre-back partner.
Kilman has looked much more assured with the experienced star alongside him. And Thompson feels the 25-year-old looks confident again having lost his way.
He said (Wolves official): “The way he came into the team to start with, the way he played, pushing forward, playing balls from back to front, diagonals, zipping balls into the midfield – he’d lost it, for me.
“Now, he’s doing what he did before, the first ball, can he look forward? He’s got the quality to do it and I like that he’s on the front foot now. It comes from performances and confidence.
“The biggest thing for me is he’s playing alongside an experienced centre half who will talk to him.”
Max Kilman does appear to have found confidence again, his partnership with Craig Dawson looks good
Kilman has definitely picked up his form in recent weeks.
And that has been great to see, because in the early stages of the season he wasn’t looking his usual self.
Perhaps it was due to having a more inexperienced player in Collins next to him. Maybe it was due to the formation change. It could have been a combination of both of those things.
But Kilman appears to be enjoying himself alongside new signing Dawson.
He did recently say that Dawson helped guide him through the game against Liverpool.
Hopefully he can now maintain this form through until the end of the season.
