Former Molineux full-back Andy Thompson has expressed his concern about Jonny Castro Otto’s form at the moment for Wolves, suggesting the defender looks ‘lethargic’.
The Spaniard has seen plenty of minutes so far this season, having played on both the left and the right.
He has mainly been used ahead of Nelson Semedo on the right.
The 28-year-old has struggled to find his best level though and against Leicester City he was really poor.
He picked up a yellow card very early on, which meant he spent the rest of the game unable to get too close to Harvey Barnes.
The tricky English winger really gave Jonny the runaround, and helped himself to Leicester’s second goal of the day.
He didn’t really have to do an awful lot. He just exchanged passed with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall before slotting into the far corner, a bamboozled Jonny losing his footing as he attempted to defend the attack.
It really was painful to watch at times, which is a huge shame to see.
Jonny has been a great player for Wolves. But it’s possible the two ACL injuries he suffered might now be catching up with him.
He doesn’t appear to be as mobile, and Thompson expressed his concern about the former Atletico Madrid man in the build up the game with Brentford.
He said (via Wolves official): “I just think at the moment that Jonny needs to come out. We looked at him on Saturday against Leicester and he looked heavy-legged and lethargic – which is unlike him. It’s very unlike him, but he looked like he was struggling throughout the game. It won’t do him any harm coming out and I think Semedo just gives us that little bit more going forward.”
Former Wolves Women player Claire Hakeman also shared her doubts, stating that confidence issues may be at play..
Jonny has been worryingly below par this season, as Andy Thompson suggests star has looked lethargic for Wolves
Jonny has definitely been off the pace this season.
In the past he has always looked very athletic and mobile. But of late, those qualities just don’t seem to be there.
Arguably, Semedo should be playing ahead of the £15 million star on that right side.
The Portugal international has also not been in particularly good form himself, so it’s not an ideal situation for Wolves.
But right now, Jonny probably shouldn’t be starting games, just while he resets.
