Andy Thompson and Lee Naylor in full agreement about Yerson Mosquera as Wolves hold Man United

Wolves held Manchester United to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford – and it was far from a quiet evening for Yerson Mosquera.

The Old Gold finally stopped their losing run in the Premier League, with Rob Edwards picking up his first point as Wolves manager.

Thoughts on that performance, Wolves fans? 🤔

The losing run is over, it's a point on the road at Old Trafford for Wanderers…

Ladislav Krejci equalised for Wolves just before half-time, after Joshua Zirkzee had opened the scoring for United after Wolves cheaply turned the ball over.

But it was overall a very decent performance from Wolves, who created chances and defended well.

And one man who was lively in both the defensive and attacking thirds was Yerson Mosquera, who is a player Andy Thompson and Lee Naylor were in agreement about.

Mosquera has now started five of the last seven Premier League games, and it’s clear that Rob Edwards is a fan.

Indeed, Edwards piled praise on Mosquera after Wolves’ draw with United.

It was an eventful game for the Colombian, who almost scored at both ends and was penalised for an embarrassing foul throw.

But he was superb on the whole, and former Wolves defenders Andy Thompson and Lee Naylor praised the star on Matchday Live Extra – but they also think he needs to calm down just a touch.

Naylor said: “It’s the way he [Mosquera] goes about his business. I say that because he looks like one of these characters who loves playing football, but he loves the hard bit of it – the running, the tackling, the heading, the fighting – he loves that and he lives off it. He must have done 10 underlaps and about five overlaps today, but they’re not always on, a few were.

“But his enthusiasm is brilliant and I do not want to take that away from him at all, but you’re in the Premier League and you need to manage your game. You need football intelligence along with that enthusiasm. If he gets that, and if he nurtures himself into that sort of player, then he’ll be one hell of a player, but right now, he’s still very raw at the moment.”

Thompson added: “But he’s got to have an off switch because he tries to do so much, he needs to have an off switch to calm down sometimes. He’s got all the attributes, but sometimes he needs to calm down. He’s always revving up to go, go, go. But sometimes you’ve got to delay it a bit and take stock, but he doesn’t, he just goes full force and carries on. But I’d rather have him the way he is than not have him at all.”

Mosquera has huge potential

It is really good to see Mosquera playing regularly for Wolves at the moment, given how unlucky he’s been with injuries.

His display against United may have been slightly chaotic, but it was also brilliant and we need to see more of that from him going forward.

Mosquera is definitely a player with enormous potential. His athleticism, aggression and aerial ability are all great traits, and he is also handy on the ball too.

Edwards said after the game that Mosquera plays on the edge, which is true.

So it is about finding the balance for Mosquera. He cannot lose what he’s all about, he just has to harness it, and he will become a top player.
