Former Wolves stars Andy Thompson and Chris Iwelumo have hailed Daniel Podence after his performance against Sheffield United on Sunday.
The 26-year-old was the star of the show at Molineux as Wanderers won 3-0 against the Blades in the FA Cup third round.
Podence was at the heart of everything for Wolves.
He gave the team the lead after good work from Fabio Silva, and then played in Rayan Ait-Nouri in the second-half who in turn found Nelson Semedo to finish.
Podence then scored a second goal after Raul Jimenez took advantage of some poor goalkeeping by Wes Foderingham.
The former Olympiacos ace is up to four goals for the campaign now. And fans have been lauding him for his contributions in recent weeks.
And Thompson and Iwelumo were among those singing his praises after Sunday’s game.
Thompson gushed on Matchday Live Extra: “What I’ve seen lately, is a Podence who wants the ball, he’s working hard for the team, he’s creating opportunities, he’s scoring goals, he got two today. That’s the Podence we want to see and we know we can see that.
“He’s invaluable with the way he’s performing at the moment, his sharp feet, his creativity. We haven’t seen enough of that over the 90 minutes.”
Iwelumo added: “His two goals today were outstanding. They were two similar goals, the little reverse and going near post, with power and accuracy. He’s an intelligent footballer and just needs a run of games now.”
Daniel Podence is Wolves’ main man right now
With Podence, there have always been glimpses of his natural talent.
But often in the past, the Portuguese forward has struggled to show consistency. And at times, he has concerned himself too much with the theatrics.
There is no doubt now that Podence is in the best moment since he arrived at the club.
He seems to be playing with a lot of confidence, and relishing operating on that left side where Hwang Hee-chan has mostly been.
The other attackers are blowing hot and cold at the moment. It’s clear he is the main man at Molineux right now.
