Andre confesses exactly why Gary O’Neil’s exit made things ‘a lot easier’ at Wolves

Wolves midfielder Andre has opened up about Gary O’Neil’s departure from the club in December.

It was O’Neil who signed Andre at Wolves, however, the 23-year-old spent just three months working with the former manager.

The Brazilian was one of eight players to arrive during the summer transfer window, captured on deadline day from Fluminense.

While it was the English coach who signed the midfielder, O’Neil wasn’t wholly convinced by Andre, allowing Vitor Pereira to truly unlock the player.

Gary O’Neil’s departure helped Andre at Wolves

Pereira is satisfied with his midfield pivot of Andre and Joao Gomes, who have gone from rivals in Brazil to teammates in the Premier League.

It’s been a period of change for both players who arrived from their homeland, with Andre the latest to undergo the adaptation phase.

During the March international break, the Wolves midfielder sat down with TNT Sports Brazil, where he was asked about his start to life at Molineux.

Andre has opened up about his struggles following his transfer, and did so to TNT, leading him to explain how Pereira’s arrival helped him to ‘evolve more’.

“In December, that’s when Gary [O’Neil] was replaced by Vitor Pereira. It turned out that he’s helping me a lot more. I’m managing to evolve more,” the 23-year-old said.

The summer signing continued by singling why O’Neil’s departure made his transition to English football ‘easier’.

“I’m managing to play better, I’ve adapted a lot to his [Pereira’s] style of play with the all-Portuguese [coaching] team, so it’s made things a lot easier.”

Andre is relishing Wolves challenge

Andre is incredibly important to Pereira, rising as one of the vital cogs in the Old Gold’s survival hopes.

When speaking to TNT, the Brazil international suggested that he didn’t want to international break to come due to the form Wolves are building.

“Now I didn’t want this to stop because our team, with two good results, opened up a nine-point gap in the relegation zone.

“Now when we come back, we have important games but we have to continue here and do what we’ve been doing, which will give our team peace of mind to play better.”

Andre played integral parts in Wolves’ recent results against Everton and Southampton, with plenty of points to play for when domestic play resumes.
