Alex Bruce praises Dan Bentley for his performance for Wolves against Man United

Alex Bruce branded Dan Bentley Wolves’ best player against Manchester United yesterday.

Wanderers put in a rather limp performance at Old Trafford and ultimately fell to a 2-0 defeat.

It was an opportunity to put a real spanner in the works for United’s top four bid. In the end though, there was no real danger of that.

It was just a very flat, end-of-season performance from Wolves, who had no shots on target in the game.

That is pretty inexcusable, given the form David De Gea has been in recently.

United defended with relative ease throughout, as Wolves again struggled to show any real cutting edge in the final third.

In the end, 2-0 was something of a lucky scoreline, because United had a lot of attempts.

And the main reason it was only two was because Bentley, making his debut for Wolves, was in inspired form.

Julen Lopetegui brought him in for Jose Sa to give him the opportunity to show what he can do. And he definitely stepped up to the plate.

He made a whopping eight saves in the game, and showed a real command of his area.

And Bentley even came in for praise from Alex Bruce, son of United legend Steve. He said on MUTV: “I thought their ‘keeper was outstanding, their best player on the pitch.”

He will undoubtedly have made an impression on Lopetegui.

You have to think the manager will hand him another start for Wolves against Everton next weekend.

Bentley’s performance against United was fantastic.

It was great to see him seize his opportunity given how long he’s had to wait.

Jose Sa has induced panic at the back lately for Wolves and it was good to see Bentley so calming between the sticks.

He should continue in goal now against Everton and possibly against Arsenal on the final day.
