Alan Shearer sums up just how bad things are at Wolves in wake-up call for Fosun

Wolves are sleepwalking into one of the worst seasons in Premier League history, and Alan Shearer is pulling no punches.

The Old Gold have been truly terrible. Zero wins by mid-December is simply not good enough for any side, across any league.

Rob Edwards has tried to come in and steady the ship, but he has been handed a task that would prove difficult for most managers at this stage.

Even if relegated, Jeff Shi has confirmed Edwards is set to stay for quite some time at Molineux, and that stability may help with promotion in the event of relegation.

However, the issues this season cannot be swept under the rug, and Alan Shearer latest claim sums it up for Wolves.

How many points can you see Wolves getting over their next five matches? 🤔

When Vitor Pereira was sacked, Jeff Shi would have been hoping for the same impact from the new head coach as the Portuguese provided the season before.

However, that has not been the case.

In Rob Edwards’ defence, the fixtures have not been kind. Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Manchester United and Arsenal have all landed in his first five matches in charge.

Even some of the teams higher in the Premier League would struggle there. However, Alan Shearer has not seen anything to suggest an improvement from those matches.

Shearer said in his preview of Wolves’ clash against Arsenal (via Metro), “There hasn’t been an uplift at all from Wolves. They have just two points in the league. They don’t score any goals, and basically, I give them no chance and no hope this weekend and for their survival chances.

“Wolves aren’t far off from being the worst Premier League team in history. I don’t see any positive from them this season, and I can’t see any improvement happening. They tried changing management, and there’s been no improvement.”

As difficult as it may be right now, pick out the one positive you have found from Wolves’ season.

We are going with Mateus Mane, who looks to be given more minutes this campaign.

Additionally, as you would likely expect, Shearer has gone for Arsenal to beat Wolves, joining Paul Merson in that prediction.

The gloomy outlook on Wolves is already pointing them down the path of relegation, and eyes are being set on next season.

Wolves’ chance to remain as a Premier League club keeps growing further out of sight, and right now the gap to safety seems insurmountable to claw back.

The Old Gold are now likely looking at a return to the Championship for the first time since 2017/2018.

Fosun were the owners who brought the Wanderers up to the Premier League, but that will not save them from criticism eight seasons on.

Next summer has to be a success, and Wolves have to come back to the top flight immediately. Shearer has noticed no improvement, and that comes down to the lack of quality in the squad.

The Molineux club have to rectify that in the Championship.
