Alan Shearer has praised Matheus Cunha after his brilliant hat-trick for Wolves, stating that the Brazilian is getting ‘better and better’ under Gary O’Neil.
Cunha made headlines at the weekend as he scored three goals away at Chelsea in the Premier League, becoming only the fourth player to do so.
Wolves ran out 4-2 winners, and were superior to Chelsea all over the pitch.
Cunha and Pedro Neto ran the defence ragged, and Mario Lemina and Joao Gomes were both superb in midfield as they pressed their Chelsea counterparts.
Most of the talk has been about Cunha though, and Premier League legend Alan Shearer has now given his thoughts about Wolves’ man of the moment…
Alan Shearer names Wolves star Matheus Cunha in his latest PL Team of the Week

Cunha is without doubt one of Wolves’ best players.
The Brazilian has been having a terrific campaign, and has discovered his goalscoring touch under O’Neil, which was something Julen Lopetegui was unable to do last term.
It is now 15 goal involvements for Cunha in his last 15 appearances, and the 24-year-old is absolutely thriving.
Shearer has been impressed and has included the player in his latest Premier League team of the Week following his exploits at Stamford Bridge.
He said (premierleague.com): “He keeps getting better and better. His goals have been crucial in Wolves’ tremendous season under Gary O’Neil.”
Cunha coming through for Wolves
What a turnaround it has been for Matheus Cunha at Wolves.
Last season, he was regularly questioned over his lack of an end product under Julen Lopetegui, and the feeling for many was that the club had seriously overpaid at £44 million.
That fee is now looking like a bargain, with Cunha looking like he’ll score or assist every time he steps out onto the pitch.
To have made 15 goal contributions in the Premier League already is amazing. Only Ollie Watkins, Heung-min son, Erling Haaland and Mo Salah have made more in the competition.
Wolves were unable to bring in a new centre-forward in the summer which means Cunha will be featuring heavily in the second half of the season just like he did in the first, and the only hope is that his body will be able to cope and that he doesn’t pick up any injuries.
