Alan Shearer has been left with little hope for Wolves after the opening 12 games of the season, and there will not be many of the Old Gold faithful who disagree.
Rob Edwards has been handed one of the most difficult jobs in the Premier League, and pulling Wolves out of this situation would no doubt already be classified as a ‘great escape’.
A match against an in-form Aston Villa side is far from ideal, but seeing as it is a West Midlands derby, there is always a chance of an upset.
Anything can happen in a derby…
The Wolves head coach will once again be without Matt Doherty, as despite returning to training, Edwards offered clarification about Doherty’s availability, and it is not good news.
And Edwards has also hinted at a possible change in setup ahead of Sunday. However, Shearer believes Wolves won’t have enough to beat Unai Emery’s side.
Alan Shearer has genuine fear Wolves could break Derby County’s record
Alan Shearer is fearing the worst for Wolves, as he believes the club have not shown anything to suggest they can amass more points than Derby’s eleven from 2007/2008.
It has been a truly miserable season at Molineux, with performances being lacklustre, all helped by a poor transfer window by the club.
Two points from 12 matches has been truly horrific form, and there have been few signs to point towards that changing.
Now ahead of this weekend’s matches, the Premier League’s all-time top scorer has previewed the West Midlands clash, and he has absolutely no optimism for Wolves.

Shearer said (via Metro), “It won’t be long before Wolves fans are looking at Derby’s lowest points record, and what I’ve seen from Wolves is that there is a danger that record could go.
“I haven’t seen anything to suggest anything different. Two points and seven goals in 12 games. I mean, you’d have to be pretty awful to break that record, but I’ve not seen anything yet in Wolves that tells me that they could get as many points as that.”
The former Newcastle striker has given the Wanderers a glimmer of hope for Sunday, only because ‘strange’ things can happen in matches of this magnitude.
But he is still backing the home side to take all three points.

Wolves on track for just six points this season
Based on their points per game, Wolves are currently heading to end the campaign on a measly six points.
Should that projected tally be a reality, that would be an utterly embarrassing season from the Wanderers, and you would suspect that record would never be broken.
The tally of eleven points has stood as the lowest for 18 years in the Premier League, and it could take decades before anyone comes close to getting below six.
There is plenty of football to be played, and even just one win can change that projected total, so for now, there should not be much thought put into it.
However, it does highlight just how poor Wolves have been.
Eyes from Pride Park will certainly centre on the Old Gold as the season continues, with hope they can finally be freed from one of England’s most infamous stats.
But there could be reason to believe Wolves can get a result against Aston Villa, and put any of that fear to bed.
