Alan Shearer heaped praise on Wolves star Daniel Podence on Match of the Day, after the club beat West Ham United 1-0 at Molineux.
The team ran out 1-0 winners, in what was one of their most impressive results and performances of the season so far.
Raul Jimenez grabbed his third goal of the season.
The star turned in from the edge of the box first time from a brilliant Podence cross.
It was a tremendous finish from the Mexican, who is really looking back to his old self now.
Defeats for Manchester United and Brighton meant Wolves’ latest win has propelled them up to sixth in the Premier League table.
They are now just four points off the top four.
It was interesting to see Bruno Lage starting Podence for only the second time in the league this season.
There is big competition for that right-wing position, but Podence got the nod yesterday and Shearer was impressed with what he offered.
He said on Match of the Day last night: “He was a real bright spark. He had a really good understanding with Jimenez.
“(On the goal) This summed it up perfectly. Give, go. It’s clever from Podence. He has a little look where he is, and that is just such a clever finish and that’s what won them the game.
Podence must build on West Ham performance after Shearer praise
We know Podence is capable of brilliant performances.
What he must start doing is stringing great displays together and finding consistency.
He is a fantastic talent on his day.
The right-wing spot is up for grabs, and it’s up to him now to nail it down.
Francisco Trincao and Adama Traore have had lots of opportunities, but the position remains up for grabs and so Podence has got to keep shining.
