Wolves beat Villa 1-0 on Saturday, with Leicester City then losing to Fulham on Monday.

Wolves now cannot go down, meaning Julen Lopetegui and the players can approach the final few games with a bit more freedom now.

Wolves put in a really good defensive performance against Villa, after Toti Gomes had given the hosts the lead with a brilliant header.

Villa had most of the ball and sought for ways through the Wanderers backline.

But there was no way through, and the two centre-halves for Wolves were particularly good.

And Dawson has come in for recognition from Shearer, who has selected the 33-year-old in his latest Team of the Week.

He said of the star (via Premier League): “A calm head and a rock at the back as Wolves picked up a win that has secured their Premier League status.”

Dawson was making his 15th appearance for Wolves since joining the club for £3.3 million in January. He has started every game he’s been available for so far.

Shearer actually picked out Dawson on Match of the Day during his analysis of the game on Saturday,

He just seemed to be equal to everything the visitors threw at Wolves.

Wolves signing him in January was a masterstroke. The backline was crying out someone with a bit of authority about them and Dawson has that in abundance.

He has improved those around him, and one wonders where Wolves might be now if he had not been signed.
