Francisco Trincao has made it into Alan Shearer’s latest Premier League Team of the Week after his promising display against Leeds United.
The winger finally managed to open his account in Friday’s clash at Molineux.
The star actually started from the bench, but called into action midway through the first-half when Ruben Neves succumbed to injury.
Trincao quickly set about causing problems for Leeds, and grabbed an assist shortly after coming on when he picked out wing-back Jonny for a first-time finish.
That seemed to give him confidence as he then rattled the post with a shot from distance.
Trincao would then actually score when he received the ball on the edge of the box after quick free-kick.
His effort was struck hard and into the bottom corner, giving Illan Meslier no chance.
Sadly, Trincao’s contributions didn’t amount to Wolves taking any points.
A controversial decision to give Raul Jimenez a second yellow card swung momentum in Leeds’ favour, and then there was some really bad defending.
Wolves may have lost, but Trincao’s display was a small positive to take, and he impressed Shearer with his efforts.
He said (via Premier League): “Made an instant impact from the bench, hitting the post from distance, setting up the opening goal and scoring Wolves’ second.”
Francisco Trincao must now kick on from Leeds performance
It was great to see Trincao finally putting in a quality performance.
He has been a real source of frustration at times this season with his end product. So for him to get two goal contributions was ideal.
What is paramount now is that Trincao builds on his latest display.
It is a bit of shame that the international break is now upon us. Perhaps he’s like to feature again quickly to try and keep his form going for Wanderers.
But hopefully he can take confidence from his assist and goal and be raring to go against Aston Villa.
